Training

Pre-award, post-award and compliance research administration training aiming to provide the latest news, training, resources and information available to MSU campus.

Essentials of Research Administration (ERA)

SPA/OSP/CGA, in collaboration with SPROUT and an extensive network of MSU staff, offer the ERA certification series to provide training for research administrators and other support staff who have responsibilities for research proposals, grants, contracts, pre- and post-award administration and related activity at Michigan State University.

ERA Registration:  For ease of use and to be consistent with other research-related trainings, we have teamed up with the Office of Research Regulatory Support (ORRS) to use the new Ability Learning Management System (LMS) for the ERA series!  You can access the new system at orrs.msu.edu/train  (login required with MSU NetID).

SPA 360

In an effort to streamline the recognition of research related training and resources offered and administered by Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA), we are excited to announce "SPA 360" as the new name and face of our programs and materials such as our Videos, KC materials, and GRAND Forum resources! SPA 360 programs aim to provide research administration training, education, resources, and administrative support to build a community of research administrators, and to advance knowledge.

External Training Opportunities

Additional training opportunities are available from external sources, such as the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) and The Society of Research Administrators International (SRA International).

GRAND Resources

The Global Research Administrator Network and Development (GRAND) Forum promotes education, improves communication and collaboration, and reviews key developments related to administrative and financial aspects of international sponsored projects.  It is hosted by SPA and is normally organized twice per academic year.  Archived presentations are found HERE.

Kuali Research (KR) Training Materials

Job aids and videos on proposal and budget development, reporting and general information are available.

Kuali Research (KR) System Updates and FAQs

Periodically, communications are sent on the SPA listserv that provide tips, instructions, bug fixes, training opportunities, system outages, etc. for MSU's research administration system, Kuali Research.  These updates started in 2017 and are now categorized by calendar year.  Click the expand to show list links to view the updates for a particular calendar year.

Training Videos
